Twitter is a social network and a micro-blogging service. Users can send text messages with up to 140 characters and receive messages from other users. The messages are "updates" or "tweets" (engl. to tweet, chirp known German). The social network based on the fact that it follows other users (engl. "following"), that is, the updates of other users subscribed. Users who follow their own updates, called "follower". On the Twitter home page you can enter updates and see the updates of people whom one follows sorted according to time. The sender can decide whether he wants to make the updates available to all or restrict access to a group of friends.
The Twitter service is also an application programming interface (API) available, so that the updates in a very different channels can be entered and retrieved. Users with, inter alia, communication structures, such as SMS (U.S. only, Canada and India [1]) or simple accessibility features on the Twitter homepage (RSS) or desktop applications available.
Using certain extensions to display additional information about the sender and the recipient group, such as the respective location on Google Maps.
